About the festival
Since 2004 VyšeHrátky has been held regularly at the beginning of September at Vyšehrad under the auspices of DAMÚZY – professionals in the field of puppet, art and object theatre for children and adults. The event with a long tradition of combining art, play and education is divided into a festival for the general public and a theatre battle for schools.
The multi-genre festival programme full of theatre performances, concerts and workshops is designed to entertain not only children but also adults. In this way we create an inspiring space for mutual discussions and meaningful leisure time.
The theatre battle for schools has a new theme every year. Through experiential activities, children learn about important events in our country’s history in the form of a play. It takes place on weekdays in the morning to complement the regular school day.
How to get here?
The festival takes place in the premises of the Old Burgrave’s Palace in Vyšehrad and in the outdoor spaces of the adjacent Royal and Princely Acropolis.
Transportation
1) The first option is to walk to us from the tram stops Výtoň, Ostrčilovo náměstí or Albertov. Take Vratislavova Street up to Cihelná brána, after which there are steps to Vyšehrad Cemetery on your right. Go up the stairs, walk straight along the cemetery wall and at the end you will see the festival grounds (large white tents) on your right.
2) You can also reach us from the metro station C Vyšehrad. You will go past the Congress Centre and straight along Na Bučance Street until you see Táborská brána on your right. Go through the gate and continue straight past the tennis courts. After Leopoldova brána, turn left and follow the walls along Soběslavova Street until you see the festival grounds (large white tents).
Festival grounds
- Entrance to the festival grounds is FREE, as is the outdoor play area, which is available to all comers. Tickets are on sale for theatre performances, workshops and concerts that are part of the festival programme. Art workshops are also available on the grounds at selected times for a small fee. Don’t worry, you can spend the whole day with ease.
- You don’t have to worry about FOOD either. During the whole festival there is a BabyBar by food influencer Agata Charvátová, who prepares a special „baby friendly“ menu for our festival every year. You can look forward to fresh soups, coffee, homemade lemonades, cakes, quiche, „baby con carne“ or breads with yummy homemade spreads. Gluten-free, vegan and lactose-free options will be available. All moderately seasoned so that children and their adult companions can enjoy themselves.
- Of course, space for strollers is provided, you can park them in front of the scenes. However, we ask for caution – do not leave any valuables or things that are important to you in them. We recommend packing a bag or backpack to keep your belongings with you. We have no experience of theft, but anything can happen and unfortunately it is not in our power to guard visitors‘ personal belongings. The organiser is not responsible for any items left on the premises.
-
What if it rains? – That is also though of.
We play in waterproof tents or in the indoor theatre and have a „wet option“ for all items on the programme. Don’t be afraid to come to the show even in bad weather. The rainy Vyšehrad has a magical atmosphere and you won’t regret ending your day with a cultural experience with children.
-
Please do not bring weapons, drugs and other items that could endanger (not only) children visitors to the festival. Pets must be kept on a leash in the whole area of NKP Vyšehrad – this also applies to the festival area. Please be considerate of other visitors, big and small, who may be frightened by your pets. For details, please refer to the Visitor Regulations, which are posted at the entrance to the festival grounds at the festival ticket office. By entering the festival grounds with these visitor rules, you agree to abide by them.
